2025 update (for chronological, it starts at bottom & scrolls up)

I also passed by Palisades ski resort
(formerly Squaw Valley,
home of the 1960 winter olympics )

after this I continued toward Tahoe. First I saw Heavenly ski resort (still snow on the slopes but closed for the season). Heavenly is so beautiful with Tahoe down below .

I did find a nice area near Granite Lake trailhead to explore (next to Silver Lake).  There was a beautiful gushing stream coming down towards the lake with cascading water over the rocks . And not a single person there. Some cabins around the area- all still empty until June probably.

I spent a night in Jackson CA. The next morning I took hwy 88 towards Tahoe- looking for trails to hike near the Kirkwood Ski resort . Unfortunately, most of the trails were still covered with patches of snow, making it too difficult to find the trail,
and it was slushy snow, so every step would sink down
(and & didn't have snowshoes) .

From Modesto I took the
 49 highway ,
and stopped in
a a place called "Rail Town"
 that has historic trains
on display in the Jamestown CA area

I spent a week in the Tahoe area.
